This photo features a
spectacular twilight view of downtown Philadelphia, a city known
for having much significance in United States history. The
quakers, Philadelphia’s first settlers, arrived in 1681 and
prospered in trade and commerce, making the city the leading
port in the colonies. The first and second Continental Congress
convened here, and Philadelphia became the headquarters of the
revolution. The city continued to be the main seat of the new
federal government until 1800. Centered in the photograph is
City Hall with its clock and statue of William Penn.
