A twilight view of
downtown St. Louis as seen looking across the Mississippi River.
Most prominent in the skyline is the Gateway Arch. This 630-foot
icon is St. Louis’ tallest structure and symbolizes St. Louis’
role as gateway to the West. Five people at a time can take a
four-minute ride on a space-capsule-type car to the top of the
arch to enjoy spectacular views of the city. St. Louis’ tallest
building, Metropolitan Square, is located just behind the arch.
To the right is the Edward Jones Dome, home to the St. Louis
Rams football team. St. Louis is one of the oldest settlements
in the Mississippi Valley and was founded as a fur-trading post.
